Experience
Appointed Chair in June 2025, Hugh has been a Board member since 2021. A Chartered Accountant, qualifying with Price Waterhouse, he brings over 30 years of experience in the insurance sector.
Hugh recently retired, having been with Aviva since 2001, where he was Director of Regulatory Affairs and External Reporting Developments, responsible for assessing and responding to future external reporting and regulatory developments. He continues to provide business advisory services to the insurance and asset management industry.
Hugh has held influential roles across UK, European, and global insurance groups and associations.
He remains a member of the ICAEW Insurance Sub-Committee and has previously served as:

- Vice Chair, Insurance Europe Financial Reporting Group
- Member, EFRAG Insurance Accounting Working Group
- Chair, ABI Financial Reporting Committee
- Member, ABI Prudential Financial and Taxation Committee
- Chairman, European Insurance CFO Forum Solvency II Working Group
- Member, CFO Forum Steering Committee
- Chair, CFO Forum Insurance Accounting Group
He is an Elder and the Treasurer at Testwood Baptist Church, Totton, and Treasurer and member of the Mission Steering Group at Central Baptist Church, Southampton. He is a Trustee of Youth and Families Matter, the church’s community project.
Hugh is on the Board of Essential Christian and also Spring Harvest Holidays and has recently been appointed Honorary Treasurer & Board Member of the Evangelical Alliance.
Hugh is married to Kay and has three grown-up children, and in his spare time enjoys watching Bath Rugby, sailing, and playing golf.
