Supporting the Baptist community is one of the keystones of Baptist Insurance. We are pleased to announce that we are working with BMS as a project partner on two of their overseas mission projects.
In the UK, we take good primary school education for granted. In fact, free primary school education for all children is a fundamental right to which governments committed themselves under the 1989 Convention of the Rights of the Child.
In Angola, a country recovering from decades of civil war, a BMS programme provides pre-school education to the poorest children, giving them a head start in school. They hear God’s word, as well as receiving a highly nutritious meal every day. The programme also provides an opportunity for social outreach to the wider community, as well as supporting the work of the Evangelical Baptist Church of Angola. And local church members are trained through the programme to become pre-school teachers, growing the programme effectively.

The second of the two projects is in Chad, central Africa. Chad regularly has temperatures of over
50°C, and has the fourth highest rate of infant mortality in the world, with one in five children dying before their fifth birthday. Specialist BMS doctors and nurses are working at a BMS-supported Christian hospital, Guinebor 2, to improve the health of children and mothers, and the hospital treats hundreds each day, including refugees from conflict in Darfur, Libya and Niger. In Chad, one woman in every 14 dies in pregnancy or childbirth. The project also trains Chadian staff in paediatric and other medical disciplines.
