The number of incidents of theft of roof lead from Baptist churches has been steadily increasing during the year.
In all areas of the UK, theft of lead is becoming a real problem for many churches. Not only does the theft result in damage to the roof, it can also leave the church vulnerable to water ingress during periods of wet weather. This can cause considerable internal damage and also result in disruption to church activities.
Prevention is better than cure and we urge all church members to be vigilant. Perhaps question any unknown persons on the church roof – particularly if theft of lead is a problem in your area. The use of anti-climb paint could also be considered and the moving of any items which can allow easy access to a roof may be a good idea.
If theft is insured, our latest church policy provides £5,000 cover for theft of roof lead and the consequential damage. Increased levels of cover are also available.
