Repair and renew grants
As of April 1st 2014 The Department of Farming and Rural Affairs (Defra) have made available the ‘Repair and Renew Grant’, for property owners, both domestic and business, in England to implement safeguards against future flooding.
The grants will give property owners access to funds up to £5,000 per property for flood resilience and resistant measures. These grants are in addition to insurance claim settlements which cover reinstatement works following flood damage.
It is possible to take measures to reduce the potential impact of flooding for example, if there are air bricks in your property using airbrick covers can minimise the chances of flood water entering the property.
Should a flood be inevitable, taking the following steps can help to reduce the damage. For example, raising electrical sockets above expected flood height or fitting tiled floors rather than carpets.
